MOJO STITCHES - COCKATOO CARAVAN

Inspired by the flora and fauna with whom we share our neighbourhoods, this series will travel all over, exploring and celebrating our shared environment as home. ‘Cockatoo Caravan’ celebrates the somewhat chaotic presence of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos in the neighbourhood.

When I was tiny and we heard their raucous calls, my dad would always say ‘It’s the pterodactyls!’ – they sound exactly like how you’d imagine dinosaurs would sound! Here, they are demolishing some Bunya Pine cones – fallen from the giant trees, under which a holiday caravan perches.

This design has a stitch count of 57w x 58h and uses full crosses over two, and a few long backstitches. In my model, I used one strand of floss over two threads of linen. It is suitable for beginners to advanced stitchers, and can be stitched on linen, Aida or evenweave of any count that you prefer.

Model stitched on 32-count ‘Platinum’ by Zweigart, using Cottage Garden Threads hand dyed variegated 6 stranded cotton threads. It's finished into a little pin-pillow, but it would look equally lovely framed.
